Being Your Best “You”

Guys..let’s just say I’ve been in a slump. Creatively, mentally, emotionally…I’ve just been completely stuck in Slumpsville. Eventually though, I finally had a conversation with myself and said “Self, what are you doing girl?” …Yes those were my exact words to myself. I got to thinking about what exactly I need to do to be my best me and get back to regularly scheduled programming and so far it’s definitely worked.

Check Your Circle Ever come home from a night out with friends and just feel completely drained? Ever had a friend call you and you find yourself feeling a sense of dread so you just let the phone ring? Yeah been there. Sometimes our “friends” weigh us down with their problems and struggles and you just have to step back and have some time to yourself.

Do Something You Love Whether it’s blogging, painting, running, whatever it is, go out there and do it girl

Don’t Look Back on “Could Haves” I read something the other day and it really spoke to me. “Don’t ask God to restore a relationship that almost destroyed you”. This being said, often when we find ourselves in a slump we look back on past events, past relationships and you remember the good times but you don’t remember the reality of the situation. Don’t look back, always look forward.

Embrace Change Change can be a good thing. Often just by changing around a room, purging your wardrobe, or changing your hair color can provide a fresh outlook and motivate you to be the best you that well, you can be.

Explore Meditation It’s really that simple. Just taking a few quiet moments to yourself either in the morning or at night can do wonders. If you feel like you can’t focus to meditate (like me) try a guided meditation app. The app I use is called Calm and it even helps me sleep at night with the Sleep Stories feature in the app. I highly recommend it to all my iPhone users.

Those are my tips for being your best you. What do you guys do to get out of a slump?

Until Next Time!

Monday Motivation

Guys…I have to tell you guys, I’m in some serious need of some Monday Motivation. I figured if I write this post, I might actually get my brain moving.

Let’s start the post with how exactly I got here shall we?

So normally I’m the type of gal that loves mornings, loves Mondays…as much as any normally functioning person can I suppose. I love the feeling that a new week brings. However…this weekend my two friends and myself decided to have a little much needed girls getaway. I say much needed because these are my childhood friends and since we’re growing up, we have school, jobs, we’ve moved to new cities…when the opportunity arose for us to get together, we jumped on it.

Yup…I’d rather be sitting on the beach, drink in hand, with these surprisingly very uncomfortable rocks than writing this paper.

There was a lot of greasy fast food, a lot of shopping, and a lot of liquor. This being said, a detox is necessary. Actually, thinking about the detox is kind of inspiring me as we speak to get back on track with my better eating habits.

See how that worked out? My brain is working, gears are moving, I’ve motivated myself and now hopefully I can motivate you. Try to start this week, and every week there after with setting a goal. It can be a small goal just for this week, or a small goal with other small goals following leading up to crushing a big, overall goal. Let’s get our shit together, plan out our weeks, be productive and just kill it. I’m always reminding myself that I have to work hard, to play hard. How do you guys keep it together during the week? I’d love to hear because my life can get kind of crazy and advice is always appreciated.

Until Next Time, Guys! Happy Monday!

Inspo- Vol. 1

Inspiration is everywhere. It pushes us to try new things, explore, and let’s be honest —  get our shit together. Here’s who (and what) has been inspiring me lately.

Jayla Koriyan

Yes! Jayla is one of my all time favorite YouTubers. She’s the definition of a Girl Boss and she’s a girl that has it all. She has the brains (she’ll be graduating from college this year with not one but TWO degrees in four years), she’s got the beauty, and she’s business savvy.  She even wrote a book titled Pretty and Educated available NOW. Jayla started her YouTube career making fashion videos while she was still in high school and when she went to college, she took her subscribers along with her, expanding her channel to include weekly college blogs that are let’s face it, one of my few addictions and I look forward to watching what she’s been up to every Sunday. Jayla’s bubbly, fun, and very real personalty makes her subscribers feel like she’s their real life best friend which is one of the things that drew me to her channel when I was starting college.

Micah Nicole

unknown

I first found Micah on Twitter and of course, I did some lurking. I found out she too had her own blog and really drops some knowledge in her blog posts. Micah is also a PR major and the true definition of a Girl Boss. One of her most recent blog posts focuses on why personal branding is important for college girls, no matter what you want to do post-undergrad. Check out her blog if you get the chance, I swear you won’t be disappointed!

With Love From Emalee is a blog that I’ve recently stumbled upon. Coincidentally enough, Emalee is actually from my hometown. Even more coincidentally, we both major in Public Relations. Her values and even her reasoning as to why she chose to major in PR are so similar to mine and her blog aesthetic is literally #goals.

This has been what’s been inspiring me lately. Like I said before, everyone is in need of a little inspiration because we all get stuck in a rut every now and then. I’d love to see what’s been inspiring YOU lately. Let me know in the comments or on Twitter.

20 Things I Learned at 20

Hi guys, I’m back. As I’m enjoying my Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (and day off from school…though the semester started literally 6 days ago), I realized I’m exactly a week a way from my 21st birthday. 2016 was a crazy year for me. Amongst everything that happened within the year…I exited my teens and finally made it to what I thought was true “adulthood”. I say this critically because when I was a kid, there were so many things I wanted to have done at twenty or in my twenties. Graduate from college at 21, Married with a career at 22, kids at 23. Let’s all laugh at my cluelessness. I always thought that I would really have my life together at 20. Despite what I thought, I’m going to share what I’ve learned after completing the first year of the decade known as my Selfish Twenties.

  1. College boys aren’t so different from high school boys
  2. Sometimes all you need is your best friend and some ice cream
  3. And Sleep — Lots of Sleep
  4. It’s impossible to be friends with an ex
  5. Cutting your phone off isn’t the end of the world
  6. The world owes no one
  7. Patience is a virtue
  8. College is really for finding yourself
  9. It’s okay not to have it all figured out
  10. Don’t believe the hype — no one has their shit together
  11. It’s okay to say no
  12. Sometimes, you just have to let go
  13. Comparing your success to another’s will only make you feel worse
  14. Good things come to those who hustle
  15. Trust your gut — it’s usually right
  16. Having a big heart isn’t a curse
  17. Let yourself have a good long cry every now and then
  18. It’s okay to be alone
  19. A relationship with God is so important
  20. Never compromise your morals

Some of what I’ve learned, I had to learn the hard way, I definitely was not exempt from  stress and heartache. I’m excited to see what the twenty-first chapter of my life has in store for me and even more excited to share with you guys!

Until Next Time

How I Stay Organized – My School and Personal Lives

Hi guys! I’ve missed blogging so so soooo much you have no idea. I even felt kind of guilty for not sticking to my posting schedule for a few weeks but every now and then we have to take a step back and take care of ourselves, mentally, emotionally, and physically, which is exactly what I had to do. Part of taking care of ourselves also has to do with how organized our lives and environments are. Whether it be our rooms, our cars, our workspaces, our schedules, how we handle all of these things affects our levels of stress. So, I’ve decided to show you guys how I stay (or attempt to stay) organized.

I must plan under any circumstance

And no, I don’t mean mentally think out what I’m going to do with my day or week when the time comes. I mean physically write out what needs to get done and what I want to get done. Doing this allows me to actually see what I’m doing and if I’m actually getting things done! Plus, my Lily Pulitzer planner is adorbs so that’s an extra little perk too, right?

I also must clean as I go

I’m going to be completely honest with you guys. I’m a very OCD type of person. I like for things to be a certain way and just organized accordingly. However, I’m also very lazy and all too quickly when I look, my room/car/purse/desk/life is a mess. So before I leave the house, after or while I’m getting dressed, before getting out of the car if I see any mess I must pick it up right then and there so it doesn’t begin  to accumulate.

I schedule in “Personal Days”

Yes, you read that correctly; I schedule in “personal days”. Some of you may ask, “well what about classes?” Yes, I do have classes however, this is why I use the word schedule. Remember those packets of paper stapled together that your professor gave you at the beginning of the semester? What’s it called again? Oh, right a syllabus. Your syllabus is what is going to save you. It has all your assignment dates, test dates, class meeting dates, all ready predetermined. This being said, sometimes life gets a little crazy and you need to take a day to get your priorities back in order and get organized. Before I do this though, I consult the syllabi for all of my classes and then pick a day to take off. This is what I like to call “skipping smart”.

Well guys, this is how I stay organized, I hope this helped in some way with the Spring Semester fast approaching. What are your tips for staying organized?

Until Next Time

2017 Goals

You guys, I’m back in action! Some of my longtime followers may have noticed I took a little bit of a break from blogging and social media for a number of reasons, mainly due to the fact that I needed to take some time for me to figure out what exactly it was I wanted in life and to reassess my priorities because, duh self care is important. 2016 has been a hell of a year for me. With 2017 finally here, I’m ready to get back to the grind, so what better way to start off the year than to document and share my goals for the year.

Financial Goals

  • STOP SPENDING JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN, BAILES!

I admit it. I have a little bit of a shopping problem. Okay, I kinda just straight up lied. I have a big shopping problem. When I feel bad, I shop. When I’m happy, I shop. When I’m bored, I shop. It’s a never ending cycle. This being said, I have to cut it out. Less spending, more saving.

  • Invest

I’ve always believed in investing whether it be in myself or my closet (more so my closet), however, I want to do more than just that. I have friends that are mission minded and have their own creative ideas. Who better to invest in than your friends? We always want to put our money towards products and services provided by people we don’t even know, so why not put our money towards people we actually do know?

Academic Goals

I want a 4.0 for the semester, or no less than a 3.5. No if, ands or buts about it. Yes things do come up, but that’s no excuse for me not to be great. I know that I can pull off a 3.0 with very little effort, but why be lazy?

Career Goals

I currently have an internship working in my city’s Chamber of Commerce in the public relations department, which mainly deals with tourism. I love the work I get to do and the people I have the opportunity to meet, but I want to kind of step out of my comfort zone and explore other areas in the PR field this year.

Personal Goals

  • Make More Time for Me

I have always been the type of person to set aside my wants, for the benefit of others. That stops now. At the end of the day I have to ask myself if I am truly happy and proud of what I’ve accomplished this year, and my life as a whole. If I want that answer to be a resounding ‘yes’, then I have to focus on myself and what my goals are and what I want.

  • Plan Ahead

When it comes to managing myself I have no problem planning ahead, just in case. However, within my church I work with my cousins Brittany and Sierra in our girls ministry, working with girls between the ages of 5 and 16. We take them on outings, have small and large group workshops and discussions, as well as work on other responsibilities we have within the church. However, Brittany went off to college in August and is now in Atlanta for the majority of the year and since then, things gave been a little hectic. I feel like I can do more, I just haven’t truly sat down to plan effectively and work out how exactly I’m going to carry out my plan. This is a major goal of mine for 2017.

Blog Goals

My goals for my blog are really very limited though it’s going to take a lot of work on my part to make it so. I’d like to:

  • Brand myself more effectively
  • Gain a larger following on my social media platforms
  • Create content with more substance than fluff

Overall I feel like my goals are achievable for this year and I hope to make everything I want possible. I’m a firm believer in the phrase, “Stay down until you come up” and that’s exactly what I plan on doing this year because I want 2018 to be my cut up season. What are your goals for 2017? Let me know in the comments, I’d love to read them!
